The meniscus is shock absorbing cartilage located between the shinbone and thighbone.
Symptoms of a damaged or torn meniscus are knee pain, swelling, and difficulty extending or bending the knee.
Treatment
Surgery to repair a torn meniscus include a partial meniscectomy or meniscal repair to remove or repair the damaged tissue. Meniscus transplant surgery can be performed to replaced the whole meniscus and replace with donor tissue. These are done via a knee arthroscopy.
